Form and Function
Design II - ARC257
The project explores the relationship between form and function in architectural design, using a pedestrian bridge as a structural framework. The bridge must support a walkway that opens to allow a 30’ x 40’ clearance, integrating movement mechanisms such as drawbridges or swing bridges. It also includes a small duplex observation tower. Students will research bridge prototypes, analyze movement analogies, develop conceptual combinations, and refine their designs through sketches, models, and web-based presentations. The project emphasizes creative transformation, structural clarity, and functional expression.
